Professor Harvard Strange`s Theory Of World Evolution And The Nature Of Things.

What a wonderful thing Mother nature is. Man, over thousands of years, has evolved into what he is now. Indeed evolution has been the same over the whole of the animal kingdom. Take the hippopotamus for example, contrary to popular belief it is a mammal and not a fish, although difficult to believe as it wallows in large swamps just north of it's native Willesden.

The `hippo` as it is more popularly known, got it`s name from the Aboriginal tribes of South America and literally means "Home Secretary"

Related to the "hippo" by marriage is the walrus. With it`s large streamlined body it is ideal for flying and some large males can fly faster than a jumbo jet (no relation to the animal kingdom). They make a superb sight with the sun glinting off of their wet bodies much to the delight of airline passengers, Each autumn thousands can be seen gathering on telegraph wires ready to fly south for the winter.

Another great mammal is the Blue Whale, growing over 100 feet enabling it to walk on the sea bed like a centipede.

The hamster, despite it`s body length of five inches is the biggest animal in the world showing just how perfect nature can become. Hamsters can often be seen nesting in tall trees or on tops of large buildings. It can gnaw through wood faster than a chainsaw storing the shavings in large "pouches" either side of it`s mouth, to be later used to build "dams" across small streams. More domesticated now, the hamster is used in power stations turning large wheels generating electricity.

An animal closely related to man is the ape. A large smooth skinned beast it can grow to eleven feet tall, and, through intensive scientific research, some females have been taught to speak a limited vocabulary. Indeed some have been employed by British Telecoms in directory enquiries. Found almost anywhere in the world they can often be seen in Torremelenos lying on the beach wearing sunglasses and drinking Pinna Collada.

The bear is an unusual animal to say the least, with it's long legs it can run at speeds in excess of sixty miles an hour across the desert where it resides. The bear's long neck helps it to reach up into the trees to lick the honey from bees nests found in the oasis.

But surely the strangest animal must be the lion. Called "The King of the Jungle" it is a mystery how it obtained this name as they spend most of their time in Longleat which is nowhere near a jungle, and, as they are not members of the royal family they cannot be crowned king.

The equator was named after an imaginary lion that ran around the world.

THE END
